Vitamin K fulfills an important role in the utilization of calcium and prevention of osteoporosis through its effect on osteocalcin, which helps maintain calcium in bone, but at the same time keeps it out of soft tissue. While Vitamin D helps in the synthesis of osteocalcin, Vitamin K is required for it to function properly.
